About

A small publication about carrying things well

A leatherworker's bench with a half-finished bag, waxed thread and an awl in the light

Most of what you find when you search for a leather duffle bag is either a store trying to sell you one or a list of "best bags" written by someone who has never zipped one shut. We wanted something in between: plain, specific answers to the questions people ask before they spend real money on a bag they hope to keep for twenty years.

So that is what this site is. How big a weekender should be. What "full grain" actually means and when it matters. Whether a leather duffle will get past a gate agent. How to pack one so your shirts survive the trip. What the stitching and hardware tell you about how long a bag will last.

How we write

  • Specifics over adjectives. Dimensions, weights, capacities in liters, leather thickness. If a claim can be measured, we measure it or say where the number comes from.
  • No invented urgency. A good bag will still be a good bag next month. We will never tell you to hurry.
  • We update. Airline rules and prices change. When they do, we revise the page and change the date at the top.
  • Honest about money. If we ever earn a commission from a link, the page will say so clearly, near the top, before any recommendation.

What we cover

Leather duffles and weekenders first: sizing, leathers, construction, care, and packing. Over time we will add guides on traveling light in general, because the bag is only half of a good short trip. The other half is what you put in it.
